On farm in Victoria
Both sides of my Mother's family settled in Australia and are a part of the Pioneer era of Australia. My mothers maternal family came from Germany in the 1850's and settled in Burra in South Australia. The first generation were butchers and great-great-great-grandfather Gustav started with a meat barrow in the streets of Burra in the 1850's. He went on to build his own butcher store and empire on the edge of town which still stands today. He was a pioneer in the region and went on to create beef and lamb farming properties. These stations are still in the family today and thriving.
His great grand son Peter Gebhardt, my grand father, had a farm out of Whyalla in South Australia called Tregalana, which is the name of our family home in Melbourne.
In the 1930's the family sheep station was run by my grand mother. There was a drought, a great depression and my grand father joined the Army in Victoria and went to train before the war. My grand mother ,in order to survive, ,started a Milk Run. Constance started the milk run with her one Dairy cow on the farm ,which was normal at the time . She would go onto buy milk from neighbouring farms and she would transport the milk to town , herself and sell to the stores and locals.
My family have been farming in Australia since 1850. Here is Gustav the first generation and his wife and children whose farms are still thriving now.
Then the second generation went on to inherit the four stations ,creating a meat and dairy industry in South Australia.
Our Milk comes from Country Victoria.
